Shawn Bannister, MS, CRNA, APRN, CCRN

BIO

Shawn is a Board Certified Anesthetist and an accomplished Anesthesia Provider who was born and raised on the Big Island. He began his medical career serving as a U.S. Army Medic and Gulf War Veteran. After leaving the military he became a registered nurse at the University of Texas at Arlington and pursued a career in emergency and critical care. In 2006, he decided to advance his career in the specialty of Anesthesia and in 2009 he graduated from Georgetown University in Washington D.C. He has several accolades to include clinical and leadership awards and several academic scholastic achievements. He served as a clinical adjunct faculty for USAGPAN educating many Military Anesthetists. He also served as an educator and director of Military Anesthesia TV from 2014 – 2018. He specializes in high acuity anesthesia cases, acute pain management, and regional (nerve block) anesthesia. In 2021, he developed an opioid free and sparing anesthesia protocol for a Kona Orthopedic Physician whose patients have reported great results with minimal to no pain 3-5 days after surgery. Shawn is passionate about providing alternatives to opioids to manage pain.
